Chr****as preparations

There have been big debates in the shop as to how much we should be bombarding you with Christmas cheer as it is still only November, for goodness sake!  But with Hallowe'en and Bonfire Night out of the way and the weather turning a little more autumnal if not actually wintry, it does seem appropriate to start enjoying some aspects of the season without getting carried away!

Put it in a pan! id=So Heather and Dave have been working on a lovely mulled wine kit to help with those chilly evenings, or to bring a cosy feel to a little get together with friends.  Dave has put together a little pack of all the necessary spices - all you need to do is add wine, a little fruit and some sweetness to the proceedings.  The kit should provide enough for several cosy evenings or one big party!

... and here is the recipe:

Pour a bottle (or two) of red wine into a pan.

Add a litre of orange juice if you want to make it go further and be slightly less alcoholic.

Add Beanies mulling spices as follows:Kits cost £3.50 but should be plenty for several goes... id=

per litre of liquid add

  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 pieces of mace
  • 1 teaspoonful of cloves
  • 2 or 3 star anise

You could also add a bay leaf or a few juniper berries if you have them to hand but they aren't included in the pack.

Slice an orange or clementine or apple to float on the top.

Add sugar or honey to taste.

Heat over a low to medium heat but do not allow it to boil.

Serve with good friends and a rich mince pie warm from the oven.
