Hello! I hope you’re feeling well rested and refreshed after the break. We’re fully back in the swing of things here, with a big week of deliveries ahead and a warning of snow on Sunday!
On Snow
If it does snow this weekend, we’ll do everything we can to maintain normal service. Snow is unlikely to halt veg box deliveries, but it may hit our supply lines and logistics – we’ll keep you updated if anything significant changes.
On Vegetables
This week is the first that all our suppliers are delivering since Christmas. Despite that there may still be a few gaps here and there as the system gets back to normal.
There will definitely be sprouts, sprout tops and washed rainbow carrots from Wednesday afternoon but uncertain before then.
There will also be some curly kale (no cavolo nero though!), assorted green cabbages and a very few local salad bags. We will be surveying a few other imported greens such as pak choi and spinach too but quality and availability are uncertain.
The best of the rest is Spanish fennel which has been great quality and has a price nudge down to 4.80kg. Aubergines may be limited in volume (£4.98kg) and in the tomato section are large vine’s £4.30kg, cherry plum £6.20kg and a very few cherry vine £7.70kg. Cuc’s will shrink a little in size and go up in price to £1.78 ea.
The zingy citrus section is doing well with Italian and Spanish blood oranges, Spanish clementines, navelinas and kumquats as well as Seville oranges for all your marmalade making needs!
The fancy mushrooms options are Dutch shiitake and oyster coming on both Monday and Wednesday.
The apple selection for this week includes: local Annie Elizabeth (cookers) plus Cox Royale, Cabaret, Topaz and Gala from Kent. There will also be UK conference pears.
The local offerings are:
Matt & El- cabbage, kale, celeriac (ltd) salad (ltd) and assorted squash.
UK Fruit & Veg: Chestnut Mushrooms, Potatoes, green Cabbage, hard red & white Cabbage, Celeriac, Swede, Beetroot, Parsnips, Apples and Pears.
& Other Highlights: Sweet Potatoes, Bell Peppers, Oyster Mushrooms, Chard, Celery, Peppers, Lemons, Spanish Navelinas, Seville Oranges (marmalade) and Italian Blood oranges, Spanish Grapefruit, Clementines, Kumquats,Lemons, Hass Avocado, Pomegranate, and Persimmon.
On Veg Boxes
There will be Yorkshire or Lancashire cabbages for all plus some (mostly local) crown prince squash from Matt & El. There is also Spanish fennel and red peppers.
UK boxes will have the cabbage and squash, plus some mixed beansprouts and parsnips.
No Potato boxes will have some Irish mushrooms and larger no pot boxes will also have a small portion of parsnips and some Spanish cherry plum tomatoes.
Larger Pot boxes will have a a French lettuce and XL boxes will also have a punnet of mixed beansprouts.
There will Kentish cabaret apples in the fruit boxes for everyone. There will also be UK conference pears, Spanish avocado and lemon, plus Italian blood oranges. The larger boxes will have some French walnuts.
